Our mines and quarries
Moravian Slate
Our two slate mines are located in northern Moravia – Nové Oldřůvky and Lhotka near Vítkov, which is a location where slate has been mined since time immemorial, as it is home to one of the highest-quality clay shale deposits in Central Europe. Core and intact raw material is obtained through deep mining, which meets even the strictest quality criteria.
Proof of the quality and durability of the slate from this location are the houses built at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, which are still covered with the original slate. Both slate mines have recoverable reserves of high-quality fissile slate in millions of cubic meters, which represents the life of planned production in the order of hundreds of years.
Czech granite and Slovak granite
We mine Czech and Slovak granite in our quarries Čierny Balog in central Slovakia and Vápenice near Sedlčany. The Čierny Balog granite quarry, which mainly produces crushed aggregate for linear and other constructions, is now in the phase of crushed aggregate extraction and preparation for extraction for noble production. Crushed aggregate mining in the amount of approx. 200 kt per year is completely sold out until 2022.
Extraction and processing of granite from the quarry in Vápenice is focused almost exclusively on special noble production, which is reflected in important reference projects within Central Europe – among which are, for example, the paving of Prague Castle, Old Town Square and Pilsen's Republic Square. Both quarries have recoverable reserves of more than 10 million cubic meters. This represents their lifespan of at least 60 years.
